Today’s post is sponsored by the Goodies Co. If you need a last-minute shopping idea, I want to share with you a simple but thoughtful gift idea. My mother-in-law lives in another state so every year usually I send her a gift card or send flowers for Mother’s Day. But this year I wanted to do something different.

My mother-in-law is a wonderful woman. She has always been supportive and loving to my husband and I and our kids. She has never been judgemental and has helped us out with the kids for many years.  I know I am lucky and want to give her something more thoughtful. This year, I am sending her a Goodies Co. gift subscription

Here is how it works. Every month she will receive a Goodies Co. Taster’s Box and receive a monthly box of 5-8 snacks for only $7/month (includes shipping).  That is a great deal and so much better than the gift card, again. It also gives her a chance to taste some fun snacks to sample.

As I looked at their website to see their box items, I cannot help but think how great this gift is not only for a special Mom, but also a Dad for Father’s Day or a recent grad who is going off to college? I am always sending care packages to my son who is away at college and I know that he would love getting one of these in the mail each month.

Here is how you can gift a Goodies box:

1. Go to the Goodies Gifting page and select a plan {3 months, 6 months, or 12 months} by clicking on the corresponding button.
2. Enter the gift recipient and gift giver details.
3. Enter the gift recipient’s mailing address (please note: this is where they will receive the monthly boxes)
4. Enter the gift giver’s billing information.
5. Review order details and click on “place order”.

You are done and have sent a clever gift, now do something for you. :) You may even want to get one of these for yourself or your family.

Mother’s Day Gifts – Organization Style

Mothers' Day Organizing Gifts.jpg.jpg

Mother’s Day is just about a week away, so today I am sharing some gift ideas that will help that special woman in your life stay organized.  Here are some relatively inexpensive gift ideas that will help with organization. They make great gifts for friends that want to be more organized.

Mothers' Day Organizing Gifts.jpg.jpg

  • Make up Organizer – This is great for many women. A place to keep all the make up neatly stored, off of the counter.

  • Jewelry Organizer – There are so many great types of these: jewelry box, hanging organizers and dresser-top hangers come in a lot of different styles. They can be found at department and discount stores. This one has lots of little compartments to keep it all organized.

  • Travel bags – These are from ebags and are great for the traveler. They keep the clothing and accessories organized, while allowing the fabric to breathe. They come in different colored and patterned sets and can also be used for electronic, medication and souvenir storage.

  • Sewing Organizer – This is from JoAnn’s fabrics and is the cutest thing ever. I like that it is easy to transport too, so supplies can be moved from room to room or elsewhere for crafting parties, etc.

  • Desk Organizer – There are so many cute desk organizers that are available in office supply and craft stores. I use these in many rooms in my house and they really work.

  •  Gardening kit – This can be put together simply with some gloves, garden utensils, seeds and a bird feeder. What is nice is that the container can be used to house the tools when not in use.

  • Budget System Wallet – I first saw this wallet from Sharon’s site at  Midlife Mom Musings. It is from Savvy Cents and has several different money compartments and comes with little labels so you can keep your budget system going.  So if you are using the envelope system or want to keep your weekly budget cash separate, it is the perfect solution. I think this is great for teens too as they learn to start budgeting.

Inexpensive Holiday Gifts

cheap gifts to make, homemade gifts

For the holidays, I always want to give a little gift to the people I work with.  However, this is about a dozen people, so I have to be frugal and keep the gift cost between $1 – 2.   I give everyone the same gift to keep it simple.  This year, I am making little sets of jams and lottery tickets.

On the tag, I wrote, “have a sweet holiday and a prosperous new year”.  So the jam represents the “sweet” and the lottery ticket represents the “prosperous”.  Half of the gift is the packaging, so I put each gift in a cellophane bag with some rafia stuffing, added a lable, and then tied it together with a bow.  Total cost = about $2.25.

Here are a few other really simple, inexpensive gift ideas:

  • Chocolate Mint Candies – with message :You were “mint” to have a Merry Christmas
  • Cookies or brownies- wrap a few in a cute gift bag and attach the recipe
  • Hot chocolate , coffee or tea packets
  • Lip balms or hand lotion
  • Gloves or jewelry
  • Cookie cutters, with a cookie cutter attached
  • S’mores kits – chocolate, marshmellos & graham crackers
  • Almost anything from the Target dollar bins

What else can you think of?

Chalkboard Gift Box

I wanted to share with you an easy craft for a keepsake box, gift box or storage box that I made this weekend while watching the Olympics.  I bought one of those cardboard boxes from the craft store.

I covered the edge with tape and painted the lid with chalkboard paint

Once the paint dried, I took some extra scrapbook paper I had and cut it to fit around the lid.

I glued it to the edge of the lid and let it dry.

Then I added a lace bow to the top and glued that to the lid.

The box looks fine as  is and makes a great gift (or a great package to put jewelry or a gift card in).  I put the name of the person I made it for in chalk on the lid.

What is nice is that because it is chalk, it can be reused by the recipient.

This was an easy craft and one that teens or older kids can make.   I have one for paper clips and another one for safety pins.  I love anything that helps me stay organized.  They also make great favors for birthdays, Valentine’s day, showers or weddings.

What did you work on this weekend?

I am linking this at Coastal Charm!
