Today I have a simple appetizer recipe I would like to share with you. It is an easy recipe that can be put together in about 5 minutes, if you have the ingredients in your kitchen.
Hummus Ingredients:
2 cloves garlic (chopped, I use the jar variety)
1 15 oz can garbanzo beans
4 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon Tahini (made with sesame seeds, found in the international section of a market)
1 teaspoon olive oil
Salt & pepper to taste
Put the ingredients into a blender.
Mix all of the above until smooth. The consistency should be creamy and blended.
I like to add a little Tapatio hot sauce to spice it up, but it tastes good without it too. I like to serve it with pita chips or sliced carrots, peppers and celery. It is a great appetizer to pull together when you have unexpected company or just need something quick.
What is your go to recipe when you need a quick appetizer?

Yum! I am always buying this for about 4bucks each visit to the store. I bet this recipe is also so much better. Thanks for all these great tips and ideas! You are naturally all that I wish to be! haha
Thanks for your sweet comment Noel!
Hummus is actually one of my go-to appetizers. I almost always have tahini and garbanzo beans in the pantry. I also do cheese quesadillas or pizza roll-ups.
Hi Patty, quesadillas are good too. Pizza roll ups sound good. How do you make them?
I love hummus!!! so I will try this one! Seems easy and yummy!
I am so glad you put where to find Tahini because I would have no idea otherwise. I’m supposed to bring an appetizer to a gathering later this month. I think I know what I’ll bring now!
It is so simple to make! Thank you for stopping by the Island.
I’ve always wanted to make this! Popped in from SITS!
How easy is that? I love hummus! I’m definitely going to have to make this.
Very yummy and super easy! Must give it a try
I love this! I live in South Africa – what would be a substitute for garbonza beans? I have never heard of them? Thanks! Visiting from SITS.
Hi Leslie from South Africa! They might be called chickpeas in other areas. You could try northern beans or navy beans and see if you like it. Thanks for stopping by!
Yum, I could do this! Thank you!
I love making hummus! I like adding roasted, ground cumin to mine and lots of lemon. Visiting from the Saturday Sharefest
I’ll have to try adding cumin, I love adding flavors to change it up.
LOVE hummus and this looks like my husbands recipe!
From SITS!
What a coincidence that I just made hummus for a last minute neighborhood cook out today. I substitute peanut butter for tahini and water for olive oil. I love to throw in some roasted red pepper too. Yum! Stopping by from SoCal Social!
Hi Nicole! Oooh! Roasted red pepper sounds good too! Thank you for stopping by!
Thanks for the recipe – hummus is my go to snack – but making my own would def save some money….Stopping by from Debbie Doos….
Thanks for stopping by Cathy!
Thank you for posting this! I’ve always wondered how hummus is made and would love to include some olives, have you tried adding other ingredients?
I have only added hot sauce and extra garlic. I have heard some people add avocado, but have not tried it. Olives sound like a good addition. I’ll have to try it! Thanks for stopping by Maribel!
This beats buying it in the store any day and it is super fresh. I must try this. I would love it if you could share this wonderful post at our WIW linky party. I hope you can join us.
